From the songs to the arrangements, it’s all in one volume. Harold Arlen & E.Y. Harburg (long-time collaborators in both the Broadway and Hollywood worlds) penned some of the most-beloved and enduring songs ever. Film composer Herbert Stothart was then tasked to take that material and weave the melodies into the musical fabric. No stone was left unturned and every member of the orchestra is given melodies to play, alongside very clever orchestral accompaniment. Included in the score is an analysis of each musical cue preceded by a brief history. As always, scene descriptions run along the top staff to aid in following the score with the film, or just with the soundtrack. Something new included is a piano reference staff underneath the main orchestral layout that composers will find invaluable. Composers will find this distilled information useful for a quick study reference. This way, the harmonies will be easy to understand, while the composer can glance up at the orchestration. Take a peek at some sample pages. Long-time customers will notice a stunning new layout design with less obtrusive time signatures. New look, new fonts, but same quality. 460 pages, 9×12 inches. Paperbound, printed in U.S.A.

This book offers a rare opportunity to study in detail a film score from the 1930’s. Herbert Stothart had such a particular musical style. It’s amazing to see all the detail that orchestrators like Murray Cutter, George Bassman and Paul Marquardt put into this very influential music. Ken Darby’s memorable choral arrangements are also included. Hopefully, this is the first of many scores from the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s that will be available to study.

I’m thrilled to have such an iconic score available for study! The brief analysis and overview of each cue is a great resource as well as the piano reference line. There is lots of variation between album recordings and the final film cuts, but Omni has handled it in an easy to follow and unobtrusive way to give you a great experience while listening to either. Fans of musical theater, classic films, and good music should consider purchasing a copy!

I’m so pleased to own this piece of musical history. When it comes to scores of this age (especially those with song settings) there are hardly any resources available to any student. I look forward to more scores of this age!

This is absolutely incredible! I never imagined I would get my hands on this, yet here we are! Such an amazing score that is enriched with timeless music. I hope any music lover and any “Wizard of Oz” fans get this score! It’s that amazing!

The Wizard of Oz is one of the most iconic and very memorable film scores that has existed in the history of movie making. The way Herbert Stohart and the other composers who put the original score together was very awesome, cool & epic!
After several years of trying to get a hold of the film score, I can finally say that I have my own copy of this incredible score in my hands from Omni Music Publishing. If the composers were still alive, they would be very impressed by this study score!
Thank you so much Tim for publishing this incredible film score on your website! This study score is fantastic and it shows the original manuscript which is easier to understand! I’ll be sure to get any other film scores you guys sell in the future!
Hope this helps!
